What we hope to accomplish
Our parkways were designed to provide connectivity, comfort and safety for all users. Over the past several decades however, the comfort and safety has degraded and it has strayed further from the original intent as laid out by the Olmsted firm almost a century ago. Our team is committed to restoring the original grand vision of each of the Louisville Parkways and will be accomplished through:
Understanding through Communication
We want to better understand what makes the parkways work for you, and why you love them. Doing this will help to set the criteria for our planning document
Make it about People
The corridor should be less about moving just cars, and more about designing for people. Balancing our roadways is always a challenge, but we firmly believe that working with you, we can create a safe and comfortable place for everyone.
We know that the historic charm of the corridor and the character that it has created is something that should be cherished.
About this effort:
Louisville Metro has retained the service of Gresham Smith to help update all of the Olmsted Parkways in the Louisville Region. Some of the segments are in the early stages of planning, which will entail a high degree of public engagement, others are moving into final design, where we will be pushing out more focused updates about the timelines and what to expect. Overall, we hope that this website can serve as your one-stop-location to interact with the Gresham Smith design team and get any information you are seeking on our Olmsted Parkways renewal and revitalization efforts.
We will post general updates about the site and upcoming meetings here.
